There is a big guessing game going on when the elections will be held. This has become almost a predominant "game" with the politicians and political game. What is the Rakyat's take on this?
It goes without saying that the general political awareness among the Rakyat today is far different as it was, say 10 to 15 years ago. The access to information and facts, despite the nozzle around the mainstream media, today is available due to the availability of the new media.
Not only the urban voters but the rural voters have greater access to differing information.
Undoubtedly, the Rakyat wants to see an honest, transparent and efficient government that will put the Rakyat's interest first. Political gimmicks may not work as well as it used to work before. People want to see real reforms and real plans or programmes for the future.
Of course the incumbent parties will face greater challenges because their ability to transform thier pronouncements on reforms into realities will be judged. The Rakyat is truly fed up with being treated like fools.
The politicians' mindset does not, unfortunately change rapidly with the changes that has taken place because they are surrounded incestuously by the same advisers with the same way of perceiving and analysing information.
In short, the politicians can go on with their political games. The Rakyat knows what they want and how they will vote.
Peace.
