UMNO ELECTIONS1: Fight for the Youth Chief Post

Barring an upset, everyone in UMNO youth knows that the final fight for the top post in the UMNO Youth will be between Khairy Jamaludin and Mukhriz Mahathir. AT the time of writing this article, Mukhrz, surprisingly is leading at 40 nominations while Khairy is at 20. No one expected Mukhriz to pass by the qualifying post (38 nominations)so fast as he is considered the underdog.

Khairy is the son-in-law of the Prime Minister, Abdullah Badawi while Mukhriz is the son of the former Prime Minister, Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

Apparently, Mukhriz and all of Dr Mahathir's children were forbidden from contesting the party's top posts while he was the Prime Minster. The election platform for Khairy is "camaraderie" while Mukhirz uses "dare to change". This contest will be closely watched by many. Many are also watching whether Abdullah Badawi's plan to resign in March affect Khairy's chances in the Youth election. If Khairy wins this time, it will prove that he won on his own support. Previously, he won the deputy Youth Chief position uncontested even though that was the first time he was nominated for a post at the national level.

This is obliquely a popularity contest between the former premier (Tun Dr) and the present prime minister (PakLah)....definitely something to watch out for. If Mukhriz wins, it could be taken to mean a stronger grassroots preference for the former...

many would blame KJ for the downfall of UMNO, but if he still wins, then Bulans is probably right. With money, "camaraderie" is always given.

What UMNO need is change...but many are resisting change. Can Mukhriz bring about change? He is vocal...he is daring enough to go against the top leaders when others would keep quiet...

Food for thought:
U dont need to be rich to be a politician, but ALL politicians (and their immediate families) are rich... kuru~kuru~kuru

faizal,

its a common sentiment within the non bumis of this country whenever they come across and see a rich and affluent malay.

they only assume 2 things, either he is corrupt or he was appointed to a cushy non performing position in a large listed company because he is a melayu and is getting paid plenty for doing jackshit just to keep the bumi quota.

if mookris can change this mindset among the melayus, i say hellaluyah, but then again how can he, as this was the design of his father in the first place.

at the end of the day nothing change, it will be the same mani mani mani to get votes with a different shithead at the helm, thats all barisan, umno knows as they are bankcrupt with ideas because mahathir's legacy is just too hard to undo without causing severe hardship to the melayus.

and if the light we see in the tunnel as hope is in fact the mahathir father and son tag team, hey man, lets see when the shit hit the fan.

adious,

james dawson,

since when did the politician serve the nation while making money?

they only make money and at the same time do a disservice to the country.
