Ramadan Thoughts5: Don’t make mischief on earth!

The Quran, surah 2 verses 11 to 12:

“When it is said to them: "Make not mischief on the earth," they say: "Why,
we only want to make peace!" [002.011]

Of a surety, they are the ones who make mischief, but they realise (it) not”. [002.012]

Surely, our life on earth is transient. We should try to leave as little harm as we possibly can before we return to the Maker, if to contribute positively is not possible?
How often have we heard that war is necessary to maintain world peace? Does that make sense?

How often do we experience misery from the mischief caused by the “noble actions” of others?

Images from http://www.chris-floyd.com/war/. (Thank you for the sad education).

Visit http://mindprod.com/politics/iraqwarpix.html to know more about the great American Government’s contribution to world peace. Americans have killed over 100,000 civilians, mostly children in Iraq. You must have a very strong stomach to see the photos of “collateral damage” there. Yup, Politicians Again!

It is terrible what is happening in the world. There are many cruelties and madness caused. Iraq, Afghanistan,Somalia, and so on. yes, I agree its politicians. I went to the site that you gave. I cried. I might sound selfish but this makes me wonder how we dont apprecaiate what we have in our country. People are talking about ideals like rights, etc but everybody has forgotten basic needs like schooling, housing, food, help for the poor.
Jahberden, I have been reading you blog for sometime and I am amazed with the quotations from the Quran that you mention. Never knew such things are in a holy book. Anyway i hope people begin to reliase that politican and politicians are making this world miserable. I hope we look at our self and change and take charge doing what little things we can.

joyce,

You are correct. Humans have been extremely creative in conjuring and implementing various means of hurting other humans. Since it is such a common occurrence today, even a news report on being people bludgeoned and children being massacred or amputated in public in faraway lands do not seem to move anyone. Commonness makes people numb. This is an example of how people get used to evil when they do not stop to think, ponder or feel.

It is a sad and sick kind of defense mechanism that protects the hearer or the viewer from being disturbed. Look at our newspaper. Whats on the front page? Trivia about politicians. Look at what gets the people's attention - politics and better if they are opposition politicians because then you can get more fun.

SO, while we are distracted by politics and politicians, evil continues to reign. But like all evil, it will get to us one day if nothing is done.
